September 25, 1957

PBS Video

May 17th, 1954
Brown vs Board of Education

On September 25, 1957, nine black students entered the school under the protection of 1,000 armed members of the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army.

After watching the above video and skimming the Wikipedia site, in 200 words or more comment on the following questions:

Think about integration of nationality, religion, race, social economic and other determining factors.

What is integration? Should integration be instated again? Are there benefits to integration?

Integration is being combined with other races. It means being within other colors and shapes. To me integration means being involved with others and looking forward to qualities of other human beings. Integration should be instated again because we need to put a stop to all racist people. We should all be able to have equal learning because a black student can be just as good as a white student. It should be instated because we need to fight for our rights and not let an angry crowd frighten us. It is a shame how people are so selfish and hurt other people. If the others would just give these students an opportunity they can make something out of their life instead of causing damage to the community. And these selfish people affect the world and the education of others. In my opinion there are benefits to integration. The reason I think that one of the benefits is proving the racist people wrong. Another benefit is that you keep on rising without worrying about the others. You can graduate out of the school with a good grade and a good college waiting for you. These benefits can happen as long as the integrated students be strong and succeed.

I would say that integration is taking two different kinds of people or species and putting them together in the same place. It is basically putting black people and white people together in one place and watching how they react to each other. Or putting a tiger and a lion together in the same cage and watching how they react to each other. No I don’t think it should be instated again because things are just the way they should be now. There is no need to go and change things just to make them worse. I mean if we instated integration again things might get better but I am not willing to take that risk. I think everything should just stay the way it is and there won’t be any problems at all. I am just speaking directly from my mind so don’t hold me to any of these comments I am just saying what I feel right now. Then again I am only 15 so definitely don’t hold me to any of this. I feel that integration can be a good thing but I am not sure that we should be worrying about that right now. Oh yeah.

I think integration is putting two kinds of people who are not use to being around each other in the same atmosphere. To whether integration should be instated again, well I would have to say that maybe it wouldn’t matter to much as it did back then. Especially with race, I think we don’t need to integrate for race anymore. Maybe if someone was going to integrate different type of people then I think that it would have to be because of people views of life. Like put a whole bunch of emo kids with the kids who smile all the time or something like that. I don’t think that there are any good reasons for integration anymore though. Integration does have some benefits. It would at less get people to learn to live with something they are not use to yet. I don’t have year of experience and I may take some things for granted, but I don’t think that things are so bad that we need integration of whatever someone can come up with. Now-a-days if someone is different or you don’t like them, people just ignore them and leave them alone. That is how I feel anyway.

Integration of races is when races are mixed amongst each other. I think that integration should only be reinstated depending on the kids that want to go to other schools. If the kids want more opportunities than their current school can offer and they work harder than their peers, then I believe that they deserve to have a chance to better their future. Working harder than their peers includes keeping their grades as high as possible at all times of the year, focusing on their schoolwork and any other positive things that they have going for themselves instead of worrying about drama, staying humble (and not acting as if they are better than anyone else or being disrespectful), and having a positive attitude towards the teachers and students at all times. If they do all of these things constantly throughout the school year, I think that they deserve the chance to better themselves because they prove that they are at school to learn and prepare themselves to succeed in a career that they love and not to be a source of negative energy that may mess up someone else’s, or their own, focus in school. The benefits of integration include everyone at the school being able to learn different cultures and learn to respect each other’s differences. This is very important because a lot of people are not able to accept and respect other peoples’ differences and that is one of our biggest and most serious problems. Another difference is the learning atmosphere will be changed for the better (if certain students are selected); students will be able to concentrate on their school work and the curriculum, and they will be able to work together more efficiently.

I believe that what happened with the nine Little Rock students was wrong. They shouldn’t have been treated the way that they were. I would have hated being escorted to school like that then having angry mobs shout and yell at me. I would have felt so uncomfortable and I would have gone back to my old school. They made them feel unwanted and that’s not a good feeling. I don’t know how they did it but I am thankful that they did because if it wasn’t for them, today I might have not been where I am now. I believe that integration is a good thing but it shouldn’t be forced. No one should have to go where they don’t want to or where they are not welcome. I believe in diversity and believe that it is a good thing. No one anywhere in the world is different so we should discriminate against anyone. Being around people of a different race or culture is very informative and will help you learn different things about different people around the world. I do think it was a good thing that the nine students went to that school because of what it did for us today but I believe how it happened was wrong.

Integration is when a place or event is oriented in one race or type of person and another set of people from a different race or person come and join or blend in with the other people. Integration is basically someone coming from a different race or background and joining some other race or background that may not be used to it. Or rarely un heard of. Integration should be insisted again but I really don’t think that anyone doesn’t go to a school because of race or the type of people anymore. I’m not saying that everyone wouldn’t get ridiculed but its not as bad as back then even though it shouldn’t be that way. There are lots of benefits to integration the main would be making a statement or a great move for the future to create opportunities for the next people to have to be in a situation. If I was in Little Rock or even one of those nine I don’t know If would be that brave. I don’t know if I would give up but to stay my whole high school career is something I would have to have a lot of strength to do because when you think about kids today kill themselves for simple being bullied at school. I had to think what if the whole didn’t like me I mean hated me so much they probably would rather see me dead just because I was black. I have a lot of respect for those nine people they paved the way for young African Americans to get a better education and to not have go to a different school because of their race. If it wasn’t for them American wouldn’t be the same. We probably wouldn’t have a black man to be able to run for president right now

Integration is the creation of diversities in areas where there is little to none. I am not sure that integration should be instated again, as if it would be it seems like it would be done to appease a group not to benefit children. As I think if it were forced there would have to be a group behind the reinstatement of the practice. I think that people of different backgrounds should have the opportunity to change schools if their school is inadequate. Because all schools are not equal, and there are opportunities present in some schools that are not in others. The benefits of doing so would allow to the child to have a better education than the one they were receiving. But, there could be many problems from doing so. Mixing kids of different religions, races, or social classes could cause discrimination but there will always be alienation in schools as children group with those that are similar to them. But I think that the benefits would outweigh the negatives to this issue as a child’s education is more important, and it integration could prove to be necessary for the advancement and development of certain people.

Integration means an act or instance of integrating a racial, religious, or ethnic group. I don’t think that integration should be instated again. We will have difficulties in races, religions and beliefs. Everybody should be equal in this world. Everybody has their own rights. Right to be treated equal, the opportunities to be successful, speak up, etc. These kids’ volunteers to be transferred from their peaceful life into such miserable time period where they are not able to participate in some events because of their skin color. If integration is instated again, United States will have to struggle to get it off again, or it may be unbeneficial for some race or beliefs. There are no benefits for Integration. It will only cause riots which will eventually lead up to war, due to the equalities for everybody. There are good people and bad in this world. It’s just that you have to judge them by yourself, and not biased on one sided of view. We want to live in a peaceful, friendly, safe environment. One way to reach this goal is to abandon integration. There are many other things we can achieve as individuals to make this world a better place to live.

Integration means when two things are combine together. I think integration should happen again because good would only come from it. It isn’t a big deal or situation. Integration could be a mix of school, race, subject, etc. If John Harris was to be mix with SciTech then good would only come from it. Good would come from it because SciTech is known to have good opportunities and John Harris does not have that. If some of the students from John Harris come to SciTech then they would also have a lot of opportunities because of the connection SciTech has. The benefits of integration are that both schools would be full of kids who would have a better chance of getting into good colleges. However, integration can also be bad. It could be bad because it could go wrong in many ways. If John Harris’s students was to go to SciTech they may not adapt well because SciTech is more advance then John Harris in some ways. Another example of integration going bad is when two schools go against each other to see who is better. Integration can cause trouble or it can make a situation better. Either way, I still think there should be more integration in the world.

I think integration is when you mixed groups of people that are different from each other. This could mean that they have different beliefs, are a different race, or are richer than the next person. I’m not sure if integration needs to be instituted again, because it is already everywhere. There are rich people that go to schools with people that are poor. This rich person and this poor person might even be friends. Even if the rich person wasn’t friends with the poor person, he doesn’t have to be. You don’t have to be friends with every person at your school. People are going to be friends with whoever they want to be friends with. The rich person and poor person may not be friends, but they might learn something from each other. The rich person might have never seen a person that was poor before and the poor person might have never seen a rich person before. These people learn something from each other just by being around each other. I think that this is one benefit of integration. People get to see things from another person’s perspective. However, I don’t think that integration should be forced. People don’t want to be forced to do things. They should just let it happen.

I think that the nine students were brave enough to volunteer to be in that horrifying position. They encountered ignorant racists who for some reason thought that their race was more prominent and that everyone else around them was supposed to be looked down upon. I can’t even begin to fathom what it would be like to walk into a school and face the agony the students faced. I know I wouldn’t be brave enough to endure the hardship of moving to another school where I know I wouldn’t fit in. To be an outcast in a society where everyone is supposed to be equal is discrimination and shouldn’t be tolerated.

I know that in the Harrisburg School District, schools are facing inequity. For example, Sci-Tech students are more vulnerable to experience opportunities. We have CPD every month, enabling us to be more experienced and involved in the community.

Integration is acceptance into a community, equal access for all; it is the combination of different races and nationalities. No matter we go, whether we go to school or to work, inequity will always have the upper hand.

Integration is when you mix different races, religions, or different people together. I don’t think that it should be instated. But, in a way it’s still happening because people are being put in places where they want to or might not want to be. For instance when people move from a rich or middle class neighborhood to a poor or lower class places they change schools. If they are know for dressing a certain way or being with certain people there is two things that can happen. You could be real popular because your know or people could look at you real funny and be popular for not being liked. Also you could be picked on or something likes that. There are lots of benefits and things that aren’t so helpful. But eventually you will get use to being treated badly or real good. It just depends on the people and how they react to certain things. Also it depends on a first impression and how you start treating people. I think that people shouldn’t do this again but no matter how much you don’t want it to happen it is going to happen because new people come to America everyday.

integration is the seperation of students based on race and color. for example, if intigration were to be reinstated again, there would be seperate bathrooms for black and whites, possibly even asians as well. i don't think that integration should be reinstated again. i don't think it should be reinstated EVER. intigration is persecution against races. and we are all supposed to be equal under the constitution. and i would never take that for anybody. i don't think there are any benefits to intigration. i think it's the dumbust idea ever, and people shouldn't even think about doing things in this way.

there is always a good and bad side to everything. Do I believe that people should be outcasted? or discrimated agaist? of course not but sometimes being with your own lets say "comfort zone" is whats really best. It's like this I am puerto rican but and i do feel a lot more comfortable around ricans that I dont know then blacks i dont< but yet most of my friends are black! its not that it's easier being around them it's just being with people with the same veiws and act like you all the time can be really boring and stupid. I can talk to ricans whenever i want really but sometimes its better to live and breathe around people whom make you earn their friendship. Sure i think things would be easier if i went to school in Puerto Rico like ive always wanted, but people will always find a way to destroy you to judge you. Color, race, religion they are all just excuses, i mean ive seen ricans crush other ricans just because they wore the wrong thing are said the wrong thing. I personally will not allow people to look at me and judge me id much rather hang with a group of black, whites, asians, and puerto ricans then an all puerto rican group. i want to be defied for being me not for what i was born into. people have the right to walk into an all white school being black, spanish, asian and be able to act freely around them thats all there is to it.

Integration is when people that are different race or people that come from others countries are brought together with people that they would not get along with. Or with people that would make a lot of conflict if the two are together base on appearance and also based or stereo-type. I think that this should not be installed again the reason why I say this is because it would make a lot of chaos. Even though everyone is different some people do not except them for they are. Many people who come from different places and come together with other people always don’t appear to be the best. They have to different minds about things and there might be some segregation and also some competing. This is not a good thing to happen but in some cases people have to choice maybe this is where they belong even though they are a different color or have a different background. I thin that no matter what race, religion you are I think that everyone should be able to be place anywhere they belong no matter what the differences are. No matter what every one is human and has feelings.

Integration is when people ship from one place to another, to a place that they are pretty different. I think that they did a smart thing to do what they did in 1957 because now people are friends and more. If they didn’t do what they did in 1957 where would this world be right now? Even know a lot of people was hurt and killed on 1957 but still look at how many people are happy. There are now many sports being played with different kind of people and games and everything else out there in the real world. People was moved and became sad at first but then things got better and everyone became very happy now, so it was not a bad thing to do. Integration should be changed again because there is some school where there is just one kind. For example Cumberland Valley is just like about one kind. You barley ever see others kinds there. That school needs to be redone because they get talked about a lot because there is just about one kind. For that kind of reason is why there is still racialism going on it these days. So that is what I think about of integration.

Brianna, Period 1:
I was asked do I believe in integration? Truth is, I do believe in it. I think that we as a whole shouldn’t judge people because where they come from and what they look like.
Just because people came from somewhere else doesn’t mean that we get to treat them however we like to or want to. Even if the people are rude and stuck up just deal with it. Because their probably just too ignorant to know about themselves. I mean in the case of the African American students that went to an all white school, it was beneficial to them they made history. That for us was just one more step to changing people’s views on society and it made us open our eyes and see what we really are, and we really act. Now in some cases I don’t think that integration is right sometimes it will only make mattes worse for everyone. There are benefits to this when students come or even people come and see how each other lives we all can grow from that experience even if you work at one job and get switched to another one you have to deal with it. You have to be able to try something you can’t just jump to conclusions all the time. You know take chances in life.

Integration is when you try or combined people from different place and race into a solid group. Integration was used to help people realize that you can get along with other people from different nationalities. Many people during the time of a lot of harsh racism people didn’t want to integrate school or work places. Even blacks sometimes didn’t want to integrate because of the fear of something happening to them or their loved ones. I think integration should still be instated today because if you don’t travel outside of your comfort zone how do you expect to be able to survive in the real world. If you don’t integrate and meet people from different places you won’t get a chance to actually experience something totally new. Many of your boss’ could be a different nationality and you would have to deal with it if you wanted the job and the money that comes along with it. I think there of many benefits from integration. I think it is benifical because then you get to meet new people and new things that you wouldn’t have gotten the chance to learn if you didn’t meet someone different then you. You also get to teach them something they didn’t know about your nationality.

Integration is combing different groups, race, religions, and etc together. When people go through integration it may be good, but most of the time it is bad because no one would like to get separated from the people they know and love and have to deal with people who may not like them at all. No, I do not that integration should be instated again for several reasons. Integration should not be instated because it will be hard for a lot of people. All it will do is change people and the way that they think and maybe even change what people think of them depending on where they are going and where they came from. Integration could make something that is good with something such as a school turn bad because they students may not like where they are going and the students who are at the school may not like them either. Integration can hurt people in many ways such as: felling unwanted, different, left out and so many more. Depending on why people integrate it can be beneficial because it could help others who live after they do such as what happened in Little Rock, AR. They will get to meet new people and understand how they live and where they are coming from. It is also beneficial because then you will be able to learn about people who are different from you and how you may have something’s in common with them.

Integration is when you move another group from a different nationality, religion, race, and social background into a new place with other people from other nationalities, religions, races, and social backgrounds. I think integrating again wouldn’t be as hard as it was on September 25, 1957 because times and people have changed. Racism isn’t as big as it used to be, but that doesn’t mean that integrating will be easy. There are still people in the world who can’t accept others for whom or what they are and that’s always going to be the challenge in integration. I think there are many benefits to integration. It gives people a chance to be in a more diverse environment, with various types of people. It also gives people a chance to learn about other peoples background and how other people all around the world. Integration gives people the chance to learn different cultures, for those who are willing to be open to new people and new things. There are also things that aren’t so beneficial. The people integrating could also be the type of people who aren’t willing to accept the people for who they are, and what they believe, because some people just aren’t willing to accept change.

Integration is when you combine two different types of people that are entirely different, has different beliefs, or act differently and you expect that they are different. I do not think that integration should be instated again because some people may not feel right with others that they do not know and it may cause problems. It also may be very bad because most people judge others on their consumptions or something that they have heard and they may cause more problems then what it is worth. I also think that it should not be instated again because some may not want to go or not may want others to come to places that they are not wanted. For example, it some one from one of them reality shows came to a school like off of sweet sixteen they probably wouldn’t fit in as well and they would get viewed as stuck up or thinking they are better than someone else. Yes, there is a benefit to integration for example, from the thing that happened with the nine black students they probably ended up getting a better education but they probably got treated very bad. It is also a benefit by introducing some one or something to something or someone it has never seen before.

Integrate is combining different races or ethnic groups, taking them from where they were, and putting them together in one organization or school. Integration would be taking someone from a foreign country, and bringing them to the United States. I honestly don’t know if bringing another person from another culture would be beneficial to us. We are good for now, since we’re thriving economically and getting a new president. Maybe we are better off not integrating from country to country. The black and white issue of integration is solved. That was a good reason to integrate though. Taking someone from Iraq and brining them here doesn’t sound like a good idea to me.

I think that integration should not be instated again. Who knows what would happen if this was brought up again. It may become a big catastrophe. If it is left the way it is now, it doesn’t need to be reinstated. As far as integration having benefits, I think it does. When blacks and whites finally integrated, there were less hate crimes. There were less blacks being hurt physically and mentally every time they went to school. So, integration has its benefits. It just doesn’t need to be instated again though.

Integration is combining two or more things to create something new. In many ways I beleive integration is a good thing, but there are also instances when it is not. Integrating all races into schools is a fantastic concept. It allows students to learn other cultures and ideas, and it helps to prevent racisim in students. However, integration is not always a good thing. For instance, integrating religions and places of worship can cause many problems. If you were to combine a catholic church with a synagogue, you risk conflict. Also, many companies and schools feel the need to keep their admissions and employee body more ethnically diverse. This is good in theory, but many more deserving students or employees are rejected as a result.

Integration is when you join two or more different "groups" together despite their differences. I believe that integration shouldn’t be instated again for many reasons. One, the mentalities of American citizens will never change; and it will only cause more trouble. For example, the majority of Americans vs. the minority, it’s obvious that the majority will overrule any day. By mixing the two it will only make things worse, because they will just look down on each other. Although the country says that all men are created equal, it will never be because no one wants to compromise and set on equal terms. Though integration has a lot of cons, there are also many pros. For example, when you separate everyone according to differences, no one will ever get to expand their knowledge. It’ll be like being locked in a box, where you surrounded by others like yourself. It will be better to be integrated so you can learn more and see more in life. Another good about integration is that it’s more equal standards. For example, if everyone reached the standards of something, then it will go by prior on-hand qualities. By them being integrated it will benefit them all because there’s a high chance that everyone might be considered. Unless of course, they are chosen by race, religion, sex, appearance, etc.

Integration is the merging of two or more different groups into one facility. At Little Rock, the students were beaten down verbally, mentally and physically. I feel that integration is not a bad thing, but people would still not like it if we integrated different schools. People have a comfort zone, and those individuals that are allowed in that comfort zone, if you took them out of their comfort zone, then the people would be upset, and feel uncomfortable. In ways, it could be beneficial, but could indeed cause problems for certain individuals. In Little Rock’s case, it was indeed beneficial, but hard for people to accept it at first. Integration should not be re-instated, because schools such as SciTech are more for the students’ future and college careers. Integration should also not be re-instated, because now people are getting jobs by their minorities, not by the quality of their work. An allusion that can be referenced would be the movie, “American History X”. This movie shows in the beginning, how the father and the sons became racist, because the father lost his job to a person of a minority, and could not support his family. So he became racist and wanted to stop integration, because he was losing all that he knew.

Integration, is to ship or move to a different place and to mix together two different things that are different in how they live, in how they dress, in how they talk, and in how they all act towards them selves towards and other people. Well, this question can be answered two different ways. One way is to say that yes, integration should be stated again, for a multiple of reasons. Another way to answer this question is to say no, also for a multiple of reasons. But, if you ask me I don’t think, that I would be able to give you my solid opinion on whether or not integration should be re-stated. I would say that it should be re-stated, because for one it could be a great learning experience for the people involved. Also, it will show people how others are in this case in a learning environment. This could also be a bad thing to do. This can bring on a lot of problems for both groups. Some wouldn’t be able to adjust to the changes, and wouldn’t be able to handle them. Others will just cause problems for other people. So, no I do not think, that integration should be re-stated.

Integration is when you combine or put things together. Like back then, combining whites and blacks into the same schools. Or combining different people from different places. Integration, now, is not a problem. Everyone has really gotten over the racism and other things like that. Everyday there are different kids in the same schools that get along perfect. Without a problem. It was a problem back then because of the racism and the segregation. Integration, I really don’t know if it should or shouldn’t be instated. Because I really don’t know what that really is. But I thin that it is not a problem. Like I said for some people it’s a problem but there are others that don’t mind it.
There are some benefits from integration. There are different ways. For example, putting the smartest people in the world together to find out something that is important. Or mixing different people to get better a something. There are times where it is best to integrate. But there are times where it wouldn’t work. Putting the two worst people together would be a bad idea. Those are some of the benefits that can happen. Then again those are some of the bad benefits that could happen too.

To most people, integration of race, color, sex, preference, and religion is a good thing. I still have yet to decide on that, but integration can be both good and bad. There are tons of strongly opinionated people in the world, who can also be stubborn when it comes to listening to any other opinions. With this, integration CAN be a very bad thing, and even dangerous. For example, if you put Muslim students in a very patriotic American school, it would be bad, and could be dangerous to the Muslim students because of the many strongly opinionated people. Those students that are open minded can cope with these students and even become friends with them, but all because of an assumption that all Muslims are terrorists, a simple situation can turn bad. I really just hate the fact that people make assumptions about people just by their race, sex, color, religion or preference. Really, everyone is alike because we all have something that links us together. I think if integration was taken away, everyone would be happier which is really sad. Everyone does discriminate, and if everyone could live among their own people then they would be happier. This isn’t the way to live, and I think that everyone should get along with everyone even though it’s never going to happen. )= (=

Integration is the act or process of integrating. This means you mix or put different groups together or put them into the same place. This maybe mixing different races or ethnic groups, genders, or sexual orientations together. A perfect example of this is the schools now, they all have different backgrounds. I think integration should be instated again. I think we should try the integration in jobs, schools, and countries. When I say countries I mean something like an exchange students, when a student is brought to a country for a period of time. This would be very educational and at the same time fun. I think it would give everyone a better understanding of what is going on around them. It would also allow people to learn how to accept people who are very different from them. I also think there is many benefits to integration, one being like I said before we can all get a better understanding of things and situations around us.

I think integration is when things or people of different types are mixed or formed together. Integration could be when people of different races, or people who have one or more differences that are separate are put with each other to make one. Integration is stopping things from being separate. Integration is when people are mixed together to stop conflict. Integration is already instated, but only between 3 of 4 races. If the government decides to integrate kids from another country into America, the American kids would look at the kids from the other country different and probably wouldn’t want to accept. The kids from the other country which have different views and beliefs wouldn’t like the judgmental American kids. There are many benefits of integration. When people integrate you can learn new things about the other race that you probably never bothered to ask. Integration can cause the stop of discrimination in many ways. The people will find out things that are interesting about the other race. People will learn to respect other people. Another benefit of integration is to stop chaos and conflict. People who have discrepancies with another race is dealt with when they come together to settle their differences.

Integration is when you put a group of people in the other group. You separate people and mix them up. Well in the past it was not permitted because racism was still going on. I believe that integrating people is wrong because we are not better than anyone else. We kind of think that we are but the reality are that we are all the same. No, integration should not be instated again. Well because it will bring more violence between people. Everyone will not have the same equality freedom. People will not be able to take others like exchange students because they are not from where we are. There will be lots of rejection from schools, churches, jobs. I think that having a mixture of people in our society is a great thing because it helps us to learn from one another. I personally don’t see any benefits because you can risk your life just because of something that is not really worth it. I personally will not try to integrate anyone in my life. I accept everyone the way they are I don’t really care about the gender and the race. So to me integration is bad. I don’t see the reason why people even do it.

What is integration?- The equal process for all, Which means were all equal as one- No it shouldn’t be insisted again why should we insisted it ...?. Yes, there are benefits to integration, being able to be with your friends, and do what you want, being able to work will you want to work, that’s benefits to not be integration. How can you benefit something from integration? – Being separated from our own people, that’s not benefiting you or me. Being integrated is a horrible thing to do to the world and I don’t want that to happen again. Intergraded- the process of opening a group, community, place, or organization to all, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, or social class, I don’t want to lose none of those privileges I love my life the way it is and I don’t want to start being integrated. I respect the people that went the integration and the Jim Crow laws- because those were some tuff times from people like us and I saw how it was for them so I don’t want to relive that they went through- but I got a chance to see what it was like and that’s good for me. But there are many befits to integration- I like to be around my people – and not being separated blacks and whites. I like to learn new things from people and I cant do that if were integrated. So my answer is no I would not like to insist it again, it just wouldn’t be right its been years… so why start now????

Integration is when you mix race together. Back in the day they didn’t let blacks and whites integrate. They had separate school, bathroom, and even water fountain. I think integrating is already around. Integration is in schools and others. I think there are places that are more on race than others. I think it is so everyone is treated equally. When the white students went to school they had better education. They have books and working condition. I think there is integration no because you can go any where you want. There are good things about integration. Many students go to schools that where predominately white and get the same education. I think it should be instated because there are still racist school who are out there. They treat there white students better than the blacks. I think it no t bad anymore but I think it could still be change. I think most people who integrated students from other places they would be treat wrong, because of there background. I don’t think people should have the right to be denied of treated differently.

Integration is the combination of two races. For instants whites and blacks have to go to the same school. Integration was to stop Segregation they were opposite’s integration will make things better. Not this day and time integration dose not needed every one is equal now a days we are more united now. So I do not think it does not need it. Yes it does because it makes the United States more united and schools would be a lot better. Now everyone is a better country now that it is this way. There is no more black on white crimes and white on black crimes. I really like integration it’s made a lot of things easier for me in today’s life. We do not have to worry about the same things as the people back then. But at the same time it’s not good because things can still happen during this process. I hate it but it happens a lot. Some times I wish things were just equal and they weren’t some many bad things that have to follow. Things would be so different we not have so much of the things we have now. That’s what I have to say on this on this out take

Integration is when you combine things together. Like for instance you can integrant some rocks with some leaves. You can integrant some people with other people who don’t like something that the other people do. In this movie that we watched called Southern School Desegregation, they had integration at this school. Nine black kids walked into a school of white kids. They did not walk alone. Everywhere they went inside the school they had soldiers watching and following them so that nothing bad would happen. In my opinion I think that it is wise to have integrations throughout all schools. I say this because it is wise to place someone in a usual place they would learn something new. Sure we/they would get picked on and discriminated. But that’s only because they are different. Because we are all different. If you actual really think about it we get discriminated every day. And that’s not because of what school we go to, but because we are different. I think it should, but then again it shouldn’t. The reason why I think we should is because it made a change in history and it made it better for people to come together. If integration never happened then we wouldn’t be here sitting in this class room and writing this while talking to our friends. If integration never happened we won’t know the people that we know today. We wouldn’t know the friends we have today. I say it shouldn’t because of how they did it back in the day. Those kids and people went through hell to get us to where we are at today. What happened if we do it again, but this time its worst. There would be more conflict then it was before. There would be people arguing with people who they knew, but at the same time didn’t know at all. We will be placing enemies with enemies. Yes there are benefits to integration. For one blacks can now sit in a room with whites and learn. Second we can be friends and have fun in public without hiding the fact that were different but want to be friends. Integration is like the best thing that ever happened to the United States.

Integration is an act or instance of integrating a racial, religious, or ethnic group. Along time ago, back then, blacks were not aloud to go to school with whites. They were not thought to be as good and worthy as the whites. The whites thought that they were outsiders. Whites would hang dummies in coffins to scare the blacks, to show them like they were going to be lynched. I would be very upset if we were still like that today. It would be very different because many people I would not be friends with. Also, many of my friends wouldn’t even have been born because they are mixed with black and white. I think I would not completely be able to accept the fact that I was not aloud to go to the certain school I wanted to go to. I don’t think there are any benefits to integration because many people would not get to meet others. I don’t think it’s fair because everyone is created equal. I think god made us to all be able to be together. I don’t think that, because of your skin color, or beliefs, you should not be able to have the same rights as the next person.

Integration is when you put different races together. It is the opposite of segregation. But if they didn’t integrate back then, today will not be the same. I think that today we would have all black, Asian, white, and so forth schools. We would all be different and segregated against. I am glad that they did integrate because life would defiantly be different and I don’t think I would like it. I don’t think that we should integrate again because I like it how it is now. If we were to switch teachers with the high, it would be fair at all. I think the teachers here are better and we deserve them because we go to SciTech High. It also wouldn’t be right to take half of the kids in Iraq and half of the kids here and switch them to different schools. People would get made fun of and judged before they even know them because of their race and how they look. There are not benefits at the time but there might be benefits in the future. Just like it is now, there weren’t back then but look what happened to make up what is going on today. I am thankful that they did integrate because like I said before things would be different, and its better like this.

Integration is when black people and white people or any other race are put together. If they didn’t try and integrate black and whites it would be much different now. The schools would be separated still between black and whites. It would be much different and whites and blacks would not be able to learn together like they do now. I don’t think we should or really have to be integrated again, because people can pretty much go where they want people aren’t really judged by their color as much as it used to in school. Yes there were benefits to integration because now we can go to school where we want without people harassing us. Also we now can go to school without having security walking around at school 24 seven, sow yes integration has really changed and improved since before. I can imagine having security picking me up and having to be there by my side for the whole day. I know I wouldn’t be strong enough to go to school and having hundreds of people screaming at me, trying to hurt me and for people to be embarrassed of being seen by me. Integration has def helped us!

Integration is when different people are joining together. For example a white person going to a school where there is very little peoples their race and color skin. I believe that integration is not need no more because there is really no need for it anymore. In my opinion its not need it because no manner what race or color skin you are you can make friends. That was only need back in the days where racism was going on. Today in day discrimination is not really seen as much as it used to be seen. Also, today children became more used to each other for no really reason. But there is not so much discrimination today in day. Integration had it benefits because in a way it stops discrimination in school and places. Also, integration made people see other people in a good view of them. Also, integration gave everyone views of different people a lot more views of people and their race. Integration is like the key for harmony in school. Today integration really does too have its benefits because integration gives. People more changes to view other people in good ways not the stereo type way. This is my opinion on this.

Intergration is when you take to different races and put them in the same place. For example if your were to take fifty blacks and fifty whites and put them in the same place that would be intergration. I dont think intergration should be reinstaded again because it is not needed. They only reason why they didnt in 1957 is because they didnt allow any blacks go to a certian school. Now you can go to any school in the country that you want to you have to be white or black. There are any benifits to intergration it can help you get different views on religon and cultures and such. Then again now that i think about it i think we could try intergration again but just with income. Some children are not aloud to go to some schools because their mothers and fathers dont make enough money. On some levels intergration is ok, but for right now i think things are comfortable. In 1957 they needed it now they dont really need it. Maybe after the people who are in school now we can try again. Try it with new meet then they can get comfortable with it and if it helps them learn and understand better than they should keep it like that. If they try to do it now they are going to currupt a whole lot of people's lives.

What is integration? Should integration be instated again? Are there benefits to integration? Integration used to illustrate the process of bringing together people of different races, more than ever blacks and whites, in schools and other settings. But it is also used to describe the process of bringing as one populace of diverse surroundings. I do not believe that integration should be instated again. If integration was instated again today that means that Barack Obama would not be running for president, and Hillary Clinton would not have dropped out of the race for president. I do not believe that there are any benefits to integration besides separation. I think that a lot of the things that go on in life today would not happen if we were separated. But I also think that others are to busy thinking and worrying about what others think about them. If we were separated then a lot of things would not happen. Obama is like more than McCain and some people do not like some of either man’s issues. So let September twenty fifth be the anniversary of integration and let’s not bring it back to September twenty fifth two thousand and eight.

Integration is when they take kids of a different race and mix them to make the school seem like they are equal. Integration is a bad idea now because it helps some kids but not all kids. If there is a school that is doing good and has good funding and then there is a bad school that has bad funding, you shouldn’t combine half and half because it makes the good school worse. Instead they should focus on helping the school that needs it. There are benefits to integration but they are not worth it. It might make 1 school better but at the sacrifice of another. People should have a choice. If someone wanted to go to another school than they should be able to choose too. Some schools have requirements as to who can be in them biased on grading performance. You shouldn’t just force someone to be in that school or be able to take someone out. The idea of integration was good for its time but now it is no longer a good idea. Before there was segregation so this fixed that but now everyone has the same rights and so it is no longer a good idea

Jaafar,

Period 6,
The word integration is a creation of links between previously separate computer systems, applications, services or processes. I think that integration should not be instated again. I ay that because it was very bad when it was here. It caused a lot of problems and killed many people. I also think that they should not bring integration back because the country is alright without it. Today, facilities are recognized more than ever as being crucial to the success of the organization, and powerful Technologies make it possible to deliver unprecedented levels of performance. But at the same time, daunting challenges face anyone responsible for building performance. Tight budgets. Staffing squeezes. Rising energy costs and worries about energy shortages. Government regulations. An unrelenting push for more productivity. Information overload. Growing demands to reduce, even eliminate, downtime. It’s no wonder that building owners and facility managers are hungry for ideas that can lower risks and operating costs, improve competitive strength, and provide more comfort, security and safety to the occupants of buildings. Integration set the world bad and changed people’s life. When the government took it away the United States got better and other people’s life changed. Everybody was equal and everybody lived their right.

Integration is means combining parts so that they work together or form a whole. I don’t think integration should be instated again because when it was first instated it didn’t work so I don’t see how reinstating it now will change anything. Especially the way people think now. When it was first used, it made things more segregated in the world, not making them better. Now people are taught to be racist so now someone telling them not to be racist and be with others who aren’t the same will be messing up their thinking.

Integration is when something is starting to become as one. When something is combining together to make one. Integration was a big part when the segregation era was in place. People wanted integration to come into the world. Everyone was tired of being segregated. They just wanted to be treated as one and not being separated. Blacks wanted to have the same schools, cemeteries, churches, and restaurants. Many blacks even wanted the same bathrooms as the whites. The black kids could not even share water fountains with the white kids. I do not think it should be instated again. I believe that they should just leave things just like they are. People should not want to change things. I do believe that things are just fine the way they are. So I think NO changes are needed at this time. I am not sure if there are any benefits or not. But, I do believe that there might be some type of benefits to it. Everybody can the same type of education. There will be less racism. Well…I am not sure about that either. But to be on the positive side, it is a god thing

What is integration? Should integration be instated again? Are there benefits to integration?

Integration; an act or instance of integrating a racial, religious, or ethnic group. I think that if it is gone then we should not bring it back. Haven’t you ever heard of the quote “once you go black you never turn back?” Well in this case this was a bad thing. We have a good thing so why go back to the bad thing. I don’t know what I would if I could not talk to some of friends. I think it should not matter what the color of your skin is or what background you come from. I make friends anywhere I go and some of them are not like me and that is the good part about having friends of different backgrounds you can share your experiences. I don’t think that there are any benefits to integration; to me it’s all bad. To some the only good thing would be making people feel bad about something they should not have to feel bad about. Back then integration is the only thing that people knew. Now that we have surpassed all of that I know different. I know that I can have a friend that does not necessarily have the same values as I do. On my mother side of the family we have Caucasian people if we still had integration I would not be able to see them or even talk to them.

Integration is an act or instance of combining into an integral whole. For example, integrating a racial, religious, or ethnic group. I think integration of different nationalities is fine. I don’t think we should be separated just because of race. In god’s eyes we are all the same, religion shouldn’t be a problem neither. Integration should be instated again. There are many benefits to integration. When we integrate we learn about other people’s culture. We can share different experiences and try new things. If we were all separate then we couldn’t learn about different foods, music, or anything else other cultures might have. I think it is a shame that those nine black students had to be so highly protected just because they were different. Those differences shouldn’t matter. That person should be judge on how they act and how they treat other people. I don’t think size, race, religion, social economic ect. shouldn’t matter. How they are as a person should matter though. Integration was very important back then and it still should be. If it wasn’t for integration I wonder were would our society be today. We would not be a democracy because different groups wouldn’t want to work together, Things would be very different. We would probably still be dealing with the issue of discrimination.

Integration is when there people picked from two races and they swap a certain places. Some kids were picked two switch from a black school to white and a white to black. They would randomly pick a handful of kids and put them in another environment to try making equality work. Integration should not be instated again. It didn’t work to well back then and there is no reason for it to come back again. I think I should also be instated for the reason of other schools that don’t have that good of a education could be switched into a higher education. That would be one of the benefits of integration. If you attend a school that doesn’t have the best education then you could be in a school that has good teaching. But the downfall could be a good ED student could be switched to a bad school. So that is why I don’t think integration should be used today. Integration started a lot of controversy back then but it did make a very memorable event.

Integration: Integration is to join or putting two things together to make something new. When you integrate new things, you will come up with a new solution. In 1956 when they integrated the blacks with the whites at the high school they made something new. Not only did they make a multicultural high school, they made history. Back then blacks weren’t allowed to be in school with the whites. I don’t think this is fair but it happened. That moment made it easier for us today. I believe that integration is necessary. You will never know the outcome of something unless you try it. I’m glad that schools now are integrated. Not just with black and whites, but with multi sex students as well. A good thing about having boys and girls at one school is to be open with other people who aren’t into things you do. Only way to expand your mind and try new things is to meet people who are into them. A positive about having integrated races is the background. A good way to learn about someone else’s culture and ethnicity is to learn it hands on. How can you understand someone without them being there to help you along the way?

In my opinion integration is being combined with different types of people for a reason. It means being with other people as far as race, size, or shape. I don’t think we should integrate again for various reasons. Especially in Harrisburg, if you do think for example in our schools its like bringing a knife to a gun fight. That’s two totally different types of people. Its not our fault that the main race in the Harrisburg schools is African-American. Our curriculum is probably the best around but when students don’t apply there self then no one cant see how good we can really be. There are lots of benefits to integration depending on where you integrate. You couldn’t integrate our schools because of all the conflict that would go with. Parents wouldn’t agree, students wouldn’t agree and I bet some teachers wouldn’t either. I don’t mean to be this one-sided but to me and my understanding this is the truth. On this particular subject I see a lot of people agreeing with the subject because we are all equal. I agree that we are all equal but are differences are to different to put together. I would love to integrate just to see how it would work out but it wont and unless us as a youth community get it together then it will never happen.

Integration is the mutual meeting point of our society. When you step back and look at our world today it is still, for the most part, separated into black and white. You can still see the dominance of some cultures still prevalent in America. This “melting pot” has become nothing more then a prison to the unique and a hotbed to the already weary soul. What I must realize is that integration is nothing but freedom. The freedom we already have. You can make predominantly Caucasian schools open to the African American people but its still up to the people to walk in. Tarik blount

Integration is based solely on choices. The prospect of total integration hinges on the people wanting to beg integrated .Integration was one of the great gifts of America moth we the people, and in some ways healed the land. But in other ways took some things from us.

By definition, integration is the act to desegregate. The definition in my words is to bring all types of people together. During the Civil Rights Movement, the government tried to integrate schools. The first school to integrate was Central High in Little Rock, Arkansas. It is famous for the “Little Rock Nine.” On September 25, 1957, the “Little Rock Nine” entered Central High School accompanied by 1,000 armed Army members. For the most part, our schools these days are integrated. Like our school, we have a majority of minorities but we do have some Whites. I would not like it if our school district decided that they wanted to integrate our schools more. I have no problem with White people; it is just that feel more comfortable around my own race. I am used to being around them. Most of my friends are minorities but I do have a few White friends. There are benefits to integration. If you are around different races, you can see different cultures. You can have more than one way of thinking. You can see different perspectives of life. In my old school, Swatara Jr. High, it was not unnatural to see different races as friends. We all got along. It would not be like that if we went to school 50 years ago. I could not imagine not having some of my friends just because of their skin color.

Integration is not a very good thing because a lot of people have been hurt by it back in the day there were lot of fights and people getting in trouble. Lots of people were being treated wrong and bad. I think it is very bad I don’t integration should be going on today because a lot of people would be hurt. Life would not be the same if there were integration, school would not be the same. I don’t think that integration should be instated again because there would be too many problems people would not to know what to do with there lives. Students would not get be best education it would be to much drama in schools in everywhere you go.

Integration

Integration was a big issue in the 20’s, 30’s, etc. For example, Little Rock Nine, nine black students went to an all white school. They were yelling, cursing, throwing things at them. But remember it was their decision to go to that school. They had to have an army covering them to survive, because if they didn’t then them kids would have killed them in a brutal way.

But what if, a person from Iraq or some suburbian place and they were coming to
(majority) a black school. In which where everybody listen to rap and R&B. They didn’t listen to rock ‘n roll. They were discriminate against them in every way. They were taking the stereotypes to their heads. But when they get to know them, they would befriend them. But sometimes some people believe what they hear on TV or the radio. I’m not going to lie I do sometime about certain people, but you have to remember that, that’s TV. Not everything on TV is real.

But say if integration was still alive. I don’t think integration would ever come back, since there is almost a black president. Even if there was it would be different because almost everything is either made by blacks, whites, Chinese, etc. everybody wear their stuff.

Think about integration of nationality, religion, race, social economic and other determining factors. What is integration? Should integration be instated again? Are there benefits to integration?

Integration is an act or instance of integrating a racial, religious, or ethnic group. For example back then black and whites weren’t allowed to be in the same house, school, neighborhood, and etc. So if a black person went to an all white school that would be integration. Racial people had made and still make racial comments towards this issue. Some say we should still be equal and some people don’t agree with different races being together. I think that people who don’t want to be equal are only making this situation worse. However, those individuals would think otherwise. How would they be making the race issue better when they still think that they are higher than the next race? I don’t understand why certain people are like that. No one is better than the next one. In the past, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. tried to make all people see that. He tried, succeed, ahs failed. Martin would be proud of the changes that he has made in this life. Even though that his is not with us his speeches and strong confidence stays with us all. I wish that we were all equal but when it comes to the truth we are not. That is one thing that needs to change in the world but I don’t know if that will ever happen.
